Up 4S is a discreet, two-way, passive 4″ ceiling speaker delivering consistent coverage and full-frequency sound to a wide range of commercial environments — from hotels and concourses to retail outlets, bars and restaurants.
Up 4S features a 4” (105mm) low frequency driver paired with a 0.7” (20mm) silk dome tweeter. It is suitable for both high quality speech and music reproduction.
The Pendant 1 and Grille 1 accessories offer further flexibility in installation and applications, allowing you to either elegantly suspend Up 4S speakers as stylish pendants or achieve a sleek, bezel-less grille appearance. These accessories are available in both black and white, helping to blend into any architectural environment.
The wide 150° conical coverage of Up 4S makes it particularly suitable for low ceilings and reduces the number of speakers required for even coverage leading to a reduction in installation cost. A shallow steel back can allows installation in ceilings with minimal cavity depth. An integral fixing system is included to achieve a simple and clean installation. Up 4S has a steel back, perforated steel grille and finished in neutral white.
Each Up 4S can be run on a series of 70 or 100 Volt taps or at low impedance. Tap selection is via a rotary switch behind the removable grille.
A SmartAmp or powered Zone will provide amplification and loudspeaker protection via onboard presets. When coupled with a Zone and WebApp, system set up and end user control is straightforward, and can be further supplemented by ZonePad wall controllers.

Optimal Audio Up 4S Ceiling Speaker FAQs
Up 4S is a two-way passive 4″ ceiling speaker with a shallow steel back can, designed for installations with limited ceiling void. A 4″ polypropylene LF driver paired with a 0.7″ silk dome tweeter delivers full-frequency reproduction for both music and speech. The shallow back can — the shallowest of the Up 4 range — allows installation in ceilings where a standard back can depth is not available. The wide 150° conical coverage pattern is the broadest in the Up range, reducing the number of speakers needed for even coverage in low-ceiling environments. Up 4S supports both 8Ω low-impedance and 70V/100V constant voltage operation.
All three are 4″ ceiling speakers with the same 202mm cut-out diameter. Up 4S has the shallowest back can and the widest coverage pattern (150°), making it the best choice for low-ceiling installations or spaces where minimising speaker count matters. Up 4O is open-backed — no back can at all — and is 70V/100V only, suited to installations where some ceiling void exists but depth is constrained. Up 4 has a full-depth steel back can, the highest output of the three (102dB vs 98dB for 4S), and a 120° coverage pattern — suited to standard ceiling conditions where depth is not a constraint. Your installer will advise on the right model based on ceiling construction, void depth and coverage requirements.
