Up 4O is a discreet, open-backed 4″ ceiling speaker delivering consistent coverage and clear sound to a wide range of commercial environments — from hotels and concourses to retail outlets, bars and restaurants.
Up 4O is supplied without a back can for ceilings with a minimum cavity depth, while an integral fixing system is included to achieve a simple and clean installation. The steel perforated grille is finished in neutral white.
With the addition of the Grille 1 accessory, Up 4O can be easily enhanced with a bezel-less grille appearance and is available in both black and white, helping to blend into any architectural environment.
Up 4O features a 4” (105mm) driver which is ideal for both music and speech reproduction. A 130° conical coverage pattern ensures the system is delivering sound where it needs to go.
Each Up 4O has been specifically designed to run on 70 or 100 volt line systems via a series of transformer taps.
A SmartAmp or powered Zone will provide amplification and loudspeaker protection via onboard presets. When coupled with Zone and WebApp, system set up and end user control is straightforward, and can be further supplemented by ZonePad wall controllers.

Optimal Audio Up 4O Ceiling Speaker FAQs
Up 4O is a passive, open-backed 4″ ceiling speaker designed specifically for 70V/100V constant voltage line systems. The open-back design — no steel back can — reduces the depth behind the ceiling baffle, making Up 4O suited to installations where ceiling cavity depth is limited but some void is available. It delivers a 130° conical coverage pattern with a 4″ coated paper driver. Note that Up 4O does not support low-impedance 8Ω operation — it is a 70V/100V only model. Tap selection is on the front baffle behind the removable grille.
All three are 4″ ceiling speakers sharing the same 202mm cut-out diameter. Up 4O is open-backed, for 70V/100V line systems only, and suited to installations where some ceiling void exists but depth is a constraint. Up 4S is a two-way shallow-back model that supports both 8Ω and 70V/100V operation, with a wider 150° coverage pattern — suited to very limited ceiling void or low ceilings where wider dispersion reduces speaker count. Up 4 is a two-way model with a full steel back can, higher output (102dB vs 100dB), and a 120° coverage pattern — the most versatile of the three, supporting both 8Ω and 70V/100V and suited to the widest range of ceiling conditions. Your installer will advise on the right model based on ceiling construction and system type.
